Persian Walk
Installation, 1984/85, 2002 The title of the 50-minute, 16mm PERSIAN WALK, made in 1984/85, alludes to Montesquieu’s Persian Letters, in which the contemporary French reality is seen and interpreted through the eyes of a loyal alien, a Persian prince. The film is about the possibilities open for us to perceive our age, our presence, because we don’t seem to notice certain things which would be more easily perceived in a later age. What we see is also influenced by the spirit of the age, as human vision is not only an optical process but through the interpretation of the sight, the spirit of the age has a decisive say in what we see. What becomes apparent when the present is treated as past? SEE THE PRESENT AS PAST |
